Donegal under 21s ease past Monaghan

March 18, 2008
Donegal advanced to the second round of the Ulster under 21 football championship following a 0-15 to 1-6 victory over 14-man Monaghan at Ballybay on St. Patrick's Day. Monaghan had Seamus Markey harshly dismissed on a second yellow card at the start of the second half, and ran out of steam in the final quarter when the visitors took control. Donegal led by 0-5 to 0-3 at the end of a first half which saw Monaghan spurn a lot of chances. Following the sending off, Monaghan took the lead almost immediately with a well-taken goal by Owen Duffy. Conor McManus extended their advantage to two points but Donegal's numerical advantage gradually began to tell and inspired by Gary McFadden, who top-scored with 0-6, they ran out comfortable winners in the end.
