U21FC: Roche seals Wexford win

March 09, 2008
It took a last gasp point from Shane Roche to earn Wexford a place in this year's Cadbury's U21FC semi-final at the expense of Westmeath at Cusack Park. Wexford 1-10 Westmeath 1-9 A goal at the end of the first quarter from Roche put Wexford in the driving seat but Westmeath, boosted by the excellent John Connellan, trailed by just 0-6 to 1-4 at the break. Westmeath took the lead when Brendan Kelly fired home a goal seventeen minutes from the end, but a flurry of Wexford scores from Sean Carmody, Peter Hughes (2) and Thomas Hayden levelled the game with time nearly up, before Roche struck for that late winner.
