U21FC: Wicklow stun Laois

March 09, 2008
The Garden County U21 footballers stunned last year's All-Ireland finalists Laois as they thrashed them in the Cadbury's Leinster U21FC with 14-men. Wicklow 1-11 Laois 0-3 The win was even more worthy when you consider that the Wicklow had midfielder Niall Gaffney sent off after just nine minutes at Portlaoise, at which stage they led by 0-2 to 0-1. They went on to add five points without reply for the remainder of the half as a much vaunted home side were powerless to stop them and the accurate John McGrath pile on the points. A Wicklow goal from Seanie Furlong seven minutes after the restart left Laois' hopes of a comeback floundering, as they managed only two second half points in front of a disapproving home support.
