Carlow under 21s hang on

February 25, 2008
Building on their first ever appearance in a provincial minor final last year, Carlow progressed to the quarter-finals of the Cadbury's Leinster under 21 football championship with a slender victory over Longford at Dr Cullen Park. Carlow 1-7 Longford 0-9 Despite their victory, however, the Barrowsiders will not be happy with their performance which was punctuated with mistakes and poor decision making. The only goal came on the stroke of half-time when corner forward Danny Molloy - who had blazed a penalty over the crossbar moments earlier - showed great composure to finish to the net. That score gave Carlow a 1-2 to 0-3 interval lead and, despite the best efforts of Longford's Mark Smith who scored 0-4, the home side held on for a narrow win.
