Ger Power bereaved

October 17, 2007
Kerry football legend Ger Power has been struck by personal tragedy with the death of his only daughter Jane following a long battle with illness. The 25-year-old, who was due to get married next July, died in hospital on Monday from what is believed to be leukaemia. The young accountant, who worked and lived in Mallow, Co. Cork, underwent stem cell replacement treatment after a donor was found, only for her body to reject the transplant. Jane's father Ger, mother Patsy and brother Gary are said to be devastated by her passing at such a young age. Her funeral Mass will take place at St. Brendan's Church, Tralee on Thursday morning. The Kerry GAA community have rallied around the Power family in this difficult time for them. Ger enjoyed a phenomenally successful career in the green and gold, winning eight All-Ireland senior medals between 1975 and '86, as well as six All-Star awards.
