Wexford boss defend Cats’ modus operandi

05 September 2007

Wexford hurling supremo John Meyler has moved to stand up for Kilkenny’s so-called robust tactics in the wake of Ger Loughnane’s assertion that the Cats play close to the border line.

"I don’t agree with that," Meyler said of the criticism of Cody’s charges. "We played them four times this year and there was no sending off.

"You never heard me whinging about them being too hard or too rough. I didn’t. That’s not the way to manage a hurling team. And there wasn’t one word from our players either.

"We sat down after those games against Kilkenny and said that this is the standard that we have to get up to.

"And if we can’t get up to them, we have no business being here.
