Galway leave Carlow's hopes marooned

August 05, 2007
Galway will compete in this year's ESB All-Ireland MFC semi-finals after they secured a convincing 3-13 to 0-7 win over a plucky Carlow side in Tullamore. Galway's margin of victory might have been a tad flattering but there was no doubting the merit of their triumph. The Connacht side led by 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval but they had to withstand a real pounding in the third quarter to stay ahead. Carlow pushed forward at every opportunity but only managed to reduce the deficit to three points, 0-7 to 1-7. A hat-trick of wides in quick succession didn't help Carlow's cause and when a breakaway goal arrived from Damian Reddington 11 minutes into the second half, the game was over as a contest. Carlow tried 'till the end but the sending off of Connor Mullins 13 minutes from time was the straw that broke the camel's back.
