Kingdom come good to make semis

August 05, 2007
Kerry's minor footballers booked their place in the ESB All-Ireland MFC semi-finals with a gritty 2-9 to 1-8 win over Tyrone at O'Connor Park, Tullamore. The Munster lads came good in the second half after they went in at half-time trailing by 2-2 to 1-6. The winners had stars in Timothy O'Sullivan and Barry John Walsh up front while Johnny Buckley and Wayne Guthrie dominated midfield. Tyrone were marginally the better team in the first half although Kerry made a dream start with JB Spillane goaling in the opening minute. However the O'Neill County proceeded to impress and they led by 0-6 to 1-1 after 18 minutes with Kyle Coney bagging two of those points. But an opportunist goal from Colm O'Shea fired Kerry into a 2-2 to 0-6 lead only for Paul McAleer to find the net for Tyrone in the 28th minute. Kerry played with much more vim and vigour on the restart though in the second half and within four minutes they were 2-5 to 1-7 to the good. Tyrone were limited to just two points in the second half and their attempt to pull the fat from the fire was thwarted at the death when Kerry 'keeper Tomas Mac an tSaoir denied Paul McAleer.
