Kildare held a commanding 1-10 to 0-4 lead at half-time and although Derry made the better start to the second half, the Lilywhites quickly regained control with points from Tony Spain and Oisin Lynch increasing their advantage. It was all over when Tony Murphy grabbed their second goal in the 56th minute, and Derry's misery was complete when Kevin Hinphey was sent off on a second yellow card.
