Dynamic Derry out on their own

June 03, 2007
It was all too easy for Derry minors as they handed hosts Antrim a 1-10 to 0-3 defeat in a largely one-sided ESB Ulster MFC quarter-final tie at rain-lashed Casement Park. Derry posted notice of their intention to go the distance by striding their way into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead at the end of an uneventful first half which was spoiled by the atrocious conditions. James Kielt was in inspirational form for the Oak Leafers in the first half with his points in the 4th and 8th minutes being right out of the top drawer. Kielt was again on target at the start of the second half and when he was hauled down in the 43rd minute, Leigh Moore converted the resultant spot kick to leave the winners elect 1-7 to 0-1 in front. Antrim plugged away but two points inside a minute from their lone scorer Darryl McAlarnon was all they could muster.
