There are some rivalries in the GAA that have an everlasting appeal, clashes that would enthral the country irrespective how well or badly either side is playing. Kerry vs Dublin in Football and Cork vs Tipperary in Hurling are two such games, but many would argue that the Daddy of them all, consolidated by their four game saga in 1991, is Dublin vs Meath. That's the main event of the week, and as you can imagine there are a wide range of betting options available on such a huge fixture. The Dubs go off at 1-2 favourites in Ladbrokes and while you won't get rich betting at that price, there are a lot worse 1-2 shots out there. Meath's biggest advantage coming into this match was their first round clash with Kildare to sharpen their edge as opposed to the boys in blue who are coming in cold into this game. If one factors in the league knockout matches, Meath have had three good hard matches under their belts since Dublin closed out the league with their loss to Kerry. This advantage backfired somewhat though when Meath forward Brian Farrell got a straight red card against Kildare and thus rendered himself suspended for this weekend. The young Nobber marksman was arguably the form forward of the country during the league, and his absence swings the advantage back towards Dublin. Dublin at 1-2 are the main recommendation of the weekend, but we'll add a couple more selections to make up a treble that will be of interest to smaller punters. For the second leg we're going to look to Longford against Laois on Saturday, and our old favourite in Longford matches - goals. Both teams to score a goal is priced at 5/4, an excellent price when our good friends from North Leinster with the porous defence and deadly attack are involved. Arguably it's Laois, the match favourites, who look like they might let this bet down, but at odds against we'll take the chance. Finally we'll look to Dungarvan, and Waterford's attempt to create the biggest upset of the year when they look to knock over Kerry. Kerry won't lose this match, but they will struggle to get past Ladbrokes' 8 point handicap. Kerry can score heavily, but in Waterford's back yard and with no real incentive to rack up the scores, 10/11 about the Déise plus eight is a worthy final leg, bringing our treble up to almost 6/1. These sides met last year in Killarney when Kerry limped to an eight point win in front of their home crowd, but significantly it was the first outing of the season for both sides back then. This year Waterford have had the benefit of a first round win over Clare, and while the standard of football in that match wasn't anything remarkable, it'll still stand to them as they try to put it up to All Ireland champions and favourites. If they can keep Kerry to a single goal or less, (last year they kept the goals out completely) it's hard to see them not being within eight points at the death.
