Orchard take minor spoils at Ballybofey

May 27, 2007
Two goals in ten second-half minutes helped Armagh to a 2-9 to 0-11 Ulster MFC victory over Donegal at Ballybofey on Sunday May 27. Jamie Clarke reacted quickest to the breaking ball to net the game's first major on 40 minutes and Ross Clarke blasted the second to the roof of the Donegal net ten minutes later. Those scores effectively knocked the stuffing out of the defending champions, who fielded only three of last year's provincial championship winning side. Michael Murphy kept Donegal in the game with a haul of 0-7 from frees and they could have been doing with scores from other outlets. The winners also had difficulty scoring early on. They raised only a single flag in the opening 20 minutes - a nice score from the boot of corner back Tommy Turley. But scores from Clarke and David Comiskey had the visitors in touch at the short whistle: 0-5 to 0-4. Thereafter, the brace of three-pointers proved decisive as Paul Kelly's charges marched onwards to a semi-final meeting with Tyrone.
