Cork camp breath collective sigh of relief

May 07, 2007
A jubilant Cork camp admitted that fortune was on their side as they triumphed by 2-10 to 0-15 over Laois in the All-Ireland Under 21 FC final at Thurles. A Daniel Goulding injury time free is all that separated the sides at the death with the Cork crew admitting afterwards that they got out of jail. "Laois were on the home stretch with five minutes to go," said Cork boss Tony Leahy after the game. "We were struggling badly when Michael (Shields) put a high ball into the square and we got a lucky bounce, but our lads simply never gave up." Meanwhile Laois attacker Colm O'Neill thought his side's chance had gone. "I thought it was over and done with, they took their chances a lot better than us. "The boys didn't want the same feeling as last year, we talked about it all along, of not having to go through that again."
