Carlow lay Meath low

May 05, 2007
It was all too easy for the minor hurlers of Carlow as they handed their Meath counterparts a 2-15 to 1-4 hiding in a rather lob-sided Leinster MHC clash at Kilmessan. Boasting five survivors from the team which reached the 2006 Leinster final, the visitors had far too much hurling nous and experience for their hosts. That said, there was only a goal (1-2 to 0-2) separating the sides at half-time with Eddie Byrne the goalscorer for the match favourites. It was all too predictable though on the restart with the wind-aided Carlow lads steaming into a 2-13 to 0-4 third quarter lead thanks, in part, to a Jason Brennan goal. Meath tried hard but were outclassed with their first score from play coming after all of 49 minutes. The hosts failed to throw in the towel though and David Brennan flashed home a deserved if merely consolatory goal near the close of play.
