Garvey to the fore

May 05, 2007
Impressive attacker Paul Garvey bagged 1-4 as Roscommon careered to an emphatic 1-13 to 0-8 win over Sligo in their Connacht MFC clash at Markievicz Park. The Tilmore clubman and team-mate Darren McDermott, who scored five points, did most to propel their side to victory in an exciting encounter. The writing was on the wall for the Yeats County in the first half at the end of which they trailed by 0-1 to 0-9 at the interval. With Kevin Higgins controlling things at midfield, Roscommon continued to have the upper hand and Sligo's hopes took a nosedive once they had corner back Patrick Farrell dismissed in the 22nd minute. Sligo came more into the game in the second half but the defence was badly caught out when Alan O'Hara put Garvey through for a fine goal on the hour mark.
