Under 21 title is next step for Laois, says Healy

May 03, 2007
Laois under 21 captain Cahir Healy is keeping his fingers crossed that the O'Moore County's long wait for an All-Ireland title in the grade will come to an end against Cork on Saturday. Laois won All-Ireland minor titles in 1996, '97 and 2003, but have failed to translate that success onto the under 21 stage. And with many supporters seeing an under 21 title as a possible step towards All-Ireland senior glory, Healy is desperate for success. Pointing out that this Laois team has been together since under 14 level, the Portlaoise clubman said: "We won a Leinster under 14 and it came together for us. The management team has been with us since then and we've tried to keep the momentum going, winning a few Leinsters. "However, this team hasn't won an All-Ireland and that has to be the goal for us this weekend. "We have won a few minors so the next step should be to win an under 21 title. It hasn't worked out for us in the last few years but, please God, we'll put that right come Saturday."
