Brawl is history, insists Dempsey

May 01, 2007
Laois under 21 football boss Sean Dempsey insists that there is no bad blood between his team and Cork ahead of Saturday's All-Ireland final in Thurles. The same group of players have met four times in the last three years, but the game which most people remember is the All-Ireland minor quarter-final of 2004, which ended in disgraceful scenes. With the sides level at full-time, a mass brawl erupted resulting in a raft of suspensions being handed down to players and team mentors. But Dempsey insisted: "It's in the history books. There's too much made out of it in the press. There were comments made by GAA people at the top who weren't even at the match. "It spiralled out of control but it's no big deal to the lads involved on Saturday. There will be a good few of the same lads playing but it's not even a consideration. It hasn't even been mentioned in our camp." Cork defeated Laois in last year's All-Ireland under 21 semi-final after a replay and Dempsey added: "We have a good rapport with them, with the players and the management and we're delighted to be meeting them for the second year in-a-row."
