Leahy rescues Banner

Gerry Leahy's late point earned Clare a 0-11 to 2-5 draw with Tipperary in their Munster MFC clash at the Gaelic Grounds on Wednesday evening, April 18. The result means that Waterford must wait a little longer to find out who their semi-final opponents will be. Leahy opened the scoring inside the opening 60 seconds, but the first half proved to be a low-scoring affair with only four scores being registered. Kevin Walzer goaled for Tipp in the fifth minute and a point from Sean Carey on the stroke of half-time gave them a 1-1 to 0-3 lead at the break. The standard of play improved significantly following the restart with Tipp extending their lead through points from Conor Sweeney and Alan Lonergan. Clare had a glorious chance to reduce the deficit when they were awarded a 40th minute penalty, but Mark McCarthy drove his spot-kick wide. Undeterred, Clare quickly levelled with four points from Barry Ryan, Leahy, David Connole and Padraig McMahon. Tipp regained the upper hand when substitute Paul Horan grabbed their second goal, but despite having McCarthy sent off in the closing stages, Clare earned a replay courtesy of late Leahy's injury-time effort. Scorers - Tipperary: K Walzer, P Horan 1-0 each, S Carey 0-2, C Sweeney 0-2, N Lonergan 0-1. Clare: G Leahy 0-4, D Connole 0-2, P McMahon 0-2, B Egan, B Gleeson and S Collins 0-1 each.
