Limerick force replay
April 12, 2007
Limerick and Clare must meet again following their 2-10 to 1-13 draw in Wednesday night's Munster MFC first round tie at Cusack Park, Ennis.
The home side appeared to be coasting to victory until a never-say-die Limerick side grabbed 1-3 in the closing stages to earn a second bite at the cherry. Substitute James Riordan goaled in the 29th minute and two further points by Ian Ryan and David Quaid saw the visitors snatch a draw they scarcely deserved.
Clare dominated for long spells and they were in no way flattered by their 0-8 to 0-3 interval lead. Limerick showed a big improvement after the restart and had nudged ahead by the 35th minute thanks to 1-1 from Joe Martin and a point apiece from Cormac Joyce and Ian Ryan.
But the Banner quickly regained the upper hand, scoring 1-5 without reply to open up a 1-13 to 1-7 lead by the 50th minute. Cathal O'Connor found the net in the 55th minute, while points from sub Padraig McMahon, O'Connor, Michael McDonagh and under 21 player David Connole looked to have ended the Limerick challenge.
But the Shannonsiders never gave up and stormed back to a set up a replay in Limerick on Saturday.
