Rebels rout Waterford

April 12, 2007
Cork cruised into the semi-finals of the Munster MFC following an emphatic 0-20 to 0-3 first round victory over Waterford at Fermoy on Wednesday evening. Wing forward Aidan Walsh led the destruction of the outclassed visitors, notching up a personal tally of 0-7. Full back Rory Buckley, wing back Brian Kelleher, midfielder Martin Hickey and full forward Ciaran Sheehan were also in top form for a Cork team that will surely encounter stiffer opposition in the next round. With Hickey and Chris O'Donovan lording the midfield exchanges, the Rebels had built up a 0-11 to 0-1 lead by the interval. James O'Mahony scored Waterford's only point of the half. Cork continued to dominate after the break and but for excellent goalkeeping by Waterford's Michael Walsh, their margin of victory would have been even greater. Scorers - Cork: A Walsh 0-7, B O'Driscoll 0-3, M Hickey, L McLoughlin, C Sheehan, C O'Donovan 0-2 each, P Honohan and C Dunne 0-1 each. Waterford: J O'Mahony 0-2, S Ahern 0-1.
