Leinster MFC round-up

April 08, 2007
The Leinster minor football championship got underway on Saturday with Dublin, Wicklow, Westmeath, Longford and Laois all making winning starts to their campaigns. Dublin proved too strong for holders Meath at Parnell Park, winning by 2-11 to 1-7. Unquestionably the result of the day, however, was Wicklow's 2-14 to 0-8 defeat of last year's runners-up Offaly in Arklow. Westmeath walloped Wexford by 1-16 to 1-4 in Wexford Park, while Longford enjoyed a 2-7 to 2-4 win over Carlow. Elsewhere, Laois had a big win over neighbours Kilkenny. The losers of Saturday's games will all get a second chance in a new qualifier system.
