Casey to learn fate

March 06, 2007
Rising Offaly football star Ken Casey will find out on Thursday night, March 6, if he faces any further sanction over his appearance in last week's National Football League tie against Longford. Under the new GAA rules, a proposal to suspend the St. Brigid's player for four weeks was made by the Leinster Council after he received two yellow cards during the recent Leinster under 21 championship game against Carlow. Casey opted for a personal hearing, but was told by an Offaly official that he was free to line out for the senior team against Longford on the basis of his interpretation that league and under 21 are considered different 'grades' under the terms of the new rules. But suspensions apply to all inter-county games and this would suggest that Casey was ineligible to play. Longford have lodged an objection to the result of the game which ended in a draw.
