Glennon sees Westmeath progress

February 18, 2007
A goal and five points from placed balls by senior star David Glennon helped Westmeath progress in the Cadbury's Leinster U21FC at the expense of Wexford. Westmeath 1-10 Wexford 1-7 It was the home side that started the brighter at Wexford Park as a sideline ball from Peter Hughes went straight to the Westmeath net after a defensive mix up. However, buoyed by the accuracy of Glennon, Westmeath soon got back into the match and were back on level terms when the full forward netted a penalty. Wexford finished the half strongly to take the lead but three Westmeath points on the restart put them back in the ascendancy and they moved 1-9 to 1-4 clear with ten minutes remaining when they had captain Francis Boyle sent off for two yellow card offences. That signally Wexford putting lots of pressure on the visitors defence but Westmeath showed enough composure to hold on for the win.
