Opel Gaelic Players of the Year for Hurling and Football

Henry Shefflin (Kilkenny) and Kieran Donaghy (Kerry) have been announced as the Opel Gaelic Players of the Year for Hurling and Football for 2006 by the Gaelic Players Association at the GPA's Annual Gala and Awards Evening in Citywest. Henry Shefflin and Kieran Donaghy won the accolade following a vote by the GPA membership after being shortlisted for the prize in October. Due to their outstanding performances throughout the GAA season, both All Ireland winners will receive a brand new Opel Astra worth Eu25,000. Commenting on the announcement, Dessie Farrell, Chief Executive of the Gaelic Players' Association said, "The selection of a players' team of the year has been a dream of the GPA since our foundation and, thanks to the courage and vision of Opel Ireland, the first Opel Gaelic Player Teams of the Year mark a milestone in the short history of our association. Sincerest congratulations to all the winners and, indeed to Kieran and Henry on being voted players of the year by their peers."
