Westmeath looking towards neutral support
09 August 2006Dublin are renowned for their passionate supporters but Westmeath Chairman Seamus Whelan is hoping his county will carry the extra support of the neutrals this Saturday in Croke Park.
Whelan believes they will have more support than they ever had in Croke Park as he is hoping the neutrals will once again be supporting David and not Goliath.
“We will have over 10,000 supporters from the county itself, plus what I expect to be the full backing of about 10,000 neutrals who will be at the match - so we will have 20,000 cheering us on,” remarked Whelan.
“That is more than we ever had getting behind a Westmeath team and hopefully it will stand to us when we run out against Dublin.
“Neutrals support David in a David versus Goliath challenge.”
Whelan admitted he is happy with the teams current preparations.
“We know that Dublin are commanding all the attention in advance of the game, which is only natural given the huge levels of interest in the fortunes of the Dublin team.
“It has allowed our team to go about their preparations quietly and in a very focused way, and hopefully this will translate into a good performance on Saturday,” a hopeful Whelan explained.
