Kerry…..2-7 Mayo….0-9 Goals either side of half-time by Johnny Buckley and substitute Eoin Kennedy helped Kerry to victory over Mayo in this All-Ireland minor football quarter-final at Cusack Park, Ennis. Beaten Connacht finalists Mayo opened the scoring through Liam Lydon after three minutes, but the Kingdom then took control with unanswered points from team captain Paddy Curran (three), Gary Sayers, Tommy Walsh and David Moran propelling them into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead by the 16th minute. Pierce Hanley and Lydon replied for Mayo before a fisted goal by Johnny Buckley gave the Munster champions a 1-6 to 0-4 lead at the break. Kerry extended their advantage after the restart when Sayers pointed. But they wouldn't score again until the 57th minute as Mayo fought back. Points from David Keane, Donal Gallagher and substitute Brian Gallagher cut the gap to three points (1-7 to 0-7) before the Kingdom sealed victory with a goal from Eoin Kennedy - son of team manager John Kennedy - with three minutes to go.
