Donegal snatch minor win

July 29, 2006
It took a late point from Declan McGarvey in extra time to ensure Ulster champions Donegal would advance to the last four of the ESB All-Ireland MFC at the expense of Offaly. Donegal 0-17 Offaly 1-13 The Ulster side impressed early on and three early points seemed to have Offaly rattled, but the beaten Leinster finalists came back with a bang towards the end of the half. The impressive Ken Casey fired over three points and won a penalty which converted by William Mulhall as Phil O'Reilly's charges went in at the break leading by 1-6 to 0-6. Donegal again started a half with a run of points and had retaken the lead before Offaly hit back. The sides swapped scores before Donegal seemed to have won it with two late points. However, Offaly came back with points of their own through Casey and Mulhall to send the game to extra time. Donegal notched two points to their opponents one in the first extra time period and as both sides could only manage 0-2 each in the second half, Donegal advanced to the last four.
