Kavanagh and Deane grab Opel Awards

The Opel Gaelic Players of the Month for June have been awarded to Cork hurler Joe Deane and Donegal footballer Rory Kavanagh. Deane, who has been instrumental as Cork claimed a the Munster SHC and are aiming for a third successive Liam McCarthy success, scored eight crucial points in the provincial decider against Tipperary. "It's great. It's my first time getting a GPA award," commented the Cork corner forward. "I think the GPA is fantastic for all the players around the country and to be recognised by the other players out there is nice." Kavanagh was a star as Donegal qualified for the Ulster decider against Armagh with crucial scoring bursts against both Down and Derry of 1-2 and 0-4 respectively.
