Roscommon end 14-year wait for minor title

Roscommon are kings of Connacht after beating Mayo in this years Connacht minor football final. The final scoreline was Roscommon 0-12 Mayo 0-9. Mayo started the brightest as they went two clear after 15 minutes of play. Corner forward Michael Sweeney was in superb form kicking three points. The game ebbed and flowed from then on. Mayo went a point ahead after 37 minutes of play when Pierce Hanley scored a brilliant point. The scoreline was 0-6 to 0-5 in favour of Mayo when Roscommon upped the ante. For the next 17 minutes they held their counterparts scoreless and quickly went into a lead. Scores from Conor Deaveney, Donal Shine, David Flynn and Colm Garvey sent them three clear. The Roscommon half-back line was excellent on the day as they ventured forward and joined up in attack on many occasions. The trio ended up with a score to their name. Mayo's Tom Parsons ensured a frantic and nervous final few minutes after his score left two between the two sides. As Mayo probed for that winning score Man of the match Shine stepped up with a minute to go, and scored a fabulous point from play that put three between the teams and sent the Roscommon men on their way to victory.
