Tipp minors march on

July 16, 2006
Tipperary…..4-19 Carlow……..0-12 Corner forward Patrick Bourke hit 1-12 as Tipperary advanced to the All-Ireland minor hurling championship semi-final with an emphatic victory over Carlow at Nowlan Park on Saturday, July 15. Following their demoralising defeat to Kilkenny in their first ever appearance in a Leinster final, Carlow competed well in the early stages and the sides were level on 0-3 each at the end of the first quarter. But their hopes were dealt a double blow when Timmy Dalton goaled for Tipp in the 17th minute and Padraig Amond then saw his rasping shot come back off the underside of the crossbar two minutes later. A Carlow goal at that stage would have left the minimum between the teams, but instead Tipp pushed forward and a further brace of goals from Tony Dunne and Brendan Maher left the Munster side 11 points clear, 3-10 to 0-4, at the interval. Three points without reply from Aaron Cox, Paudie Kehoe and Denis Murphy raised hopes of a Carlow comeback after the restart, but Tipp quickly regained the initiative and they were out of sight when Bourke scored their fourth major in the 38th minute.
