Beaten by Dublin in last year's provincial minor semi-final, Kilkenny were not going to suffer the same fate again as they disposed of the challenge of the reigning Leinster champions by 12 points. Kilkenny 2-14 Dublin 0-8 Dublin failed to create many scoring chances against a tight marking Kilkenny rearguard as Paul Ryan accounted for al of their three first half points. Kilkenny too were finding scores hard to come by but Richie Hogan's goal ensured they led by four points at the short whistle. Dublin grabbed the only two points of the third quarter through Ryan and another shock looked on the cards, but a finishing salvo of 1-10, with the goal coming from Colin Fennelly, ensured that Kilkenny progressed to yet another Leinster decider.
