Tipp minors give Kerry a fright

April 27, 2006
Kerry……2-10 Tipperary…2-7 Kerry had to dig deep to get the better of a fired-up Tipperary team in the Munster minor football championship at Newcastle West on Wednesday night, April 26. Tipp made the perfect start when David Keogh finished to the net after Kerry goalkeeper Tomas Mac an tSaoir had saved Brian Jones' initial effort. The Kingdom had to wait until the 19th minute to open their account through Gary Sayers. Three minutes later, Paddy Curran - in his third year as a county minor - converted a penalty to put them in the driving seat. Kerry did hit a purple patch which yielded points from David Moran, O'Driscoll, Curran and Sayers to lead by 1-6 to 1-2 at the break. When James Doolan added a second Kerry goal in the 52nd minute, six points separated the sides. However, driven on by centre back Paddy Codd, Tipperary refused to throw in the towel and David Keogh's second goal had the Kingdom hanging on for victory. Scorers - Kerry: P Curran 1-2, J Doolan 1-1, G Sayers 0-3, D Moran 0-2, G O'Driscoll and E Kennedy 0-1 each. Tipperary: D Keogh 2-1, S Carey 0-3, D McCormack 0-2, T Dunne 0-1.
