26 February 2006Rory Jacob helped himself to a superb 1-8 tally as Wexford handed Clare a 2-13 to 0-11 defeat in an absorbing NHL Division 1A clash at Wexford Park.
Wexford always had the upper hand as they started the game with the breeze at their backs.
Jacob was in super form all through, leading from the front early on specifically as the Model County raced into an emphatic 1-4 to 0-1 lead.
With the wind at their backs, Wexford proceeded to build on MJ Furlongs 6th minute goal as the first half gathered pace and by the interval they had increased their advantage to eight points thanks, in part, to some fine points by Rory Jacob.
Wexford remained in the asendancy in the first half at the end of which they led by 1-8 to 0-3.
Playing with the breeze at their backs in the second half, Clare worked hard to get back on terms and a brace of points from Tony Carmody did indeed help their cause as did a fine piont from Brian Nugent.
Clare battled to the end and had two points from sub. Brian Gilligan but Rory Jacob notched Wexfords second goal to put the issue beyond doubt.
