Connolly lambasts Walsh
November 17, 2005
Cavan countyman Nicholas Walsh has been accused of spitting at a Latton player while playing for Cavan Gaels in last weekend's Ulster senior club football clash.
Latton manager Gerry Connolly pulled no punches as he launched an attack on Walsh for his alleged treatment of his midfielder Eoin Lennon.
"Eoin refused to shake Nicholas Walsh's hand after the match because he said that he spat on his face," Connolly blasted.
"He reported it to the referee at the time and the ref told him to get on with the game.
"There can be no place in Gaelic football, or any sport, for this type of offence and referees are going to have to clamp down on this sort of activity.
"It's galling in the extreme," Connolly added.
However a Cavan Gaels spokesman denied that Walsh was "very upset" by the spitting accusation.
"Nicholas denies this allegation of spitting.
"He feels that he has come under more scrutiny since he marked Sean Cavanagh in the Ulster Championship in the summer."
