Murphy bows out
18 November 2004
Larry Murphy
Wexfords long-serving forward Larry Murphy has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.
The 32-year-old Cloughbawn man, who was one of the last remaining links with the Wexford team that won the All-Ireland title in 1996, has cited increased family and work commitments as his reason for retiring.
Murphy became a father for the first time this year and has also taken on an increased workload as Wexford representative for soft drinks company C&C.
A hugely popular figure with the Wexford fans, Murphy made his debut in 1992 against Laois and played in seven Leinster finals, winning three in 1996, 97 and this year.
In recent seasons, he was used more as an impact sub, with one of his best performances in a Wexford jersey coming against Waterford in last years All-Ireland qualifiers.
