Four-in-a-row for Stradbally

November 01, 2004
Stradbally 2-8 Nire 1-4 Stradbally earned their place in the Waterford GAA history books on Sunday, after they saw off the challenge of rivals Nire to claim their fourth consecutive county title at Dungarvan. County star Niall Curran scored a goal early in the second half to level matters before the defending champions moved up a gear and pulled away from their opponents. Following Curran's goal, Stradbally added a further 1-5 to a solitary point from Nire. Stradbally lead by 0-3 to 0-0 after 15 minutes, but Nire held them scoreless for the remainder of the half as they tagged on 1-3 before the break, their goal coming from Brian Wall. Curran's goal proved the turning point for the winners and when Denis Doyle added a second, the writing was on the wall for Nire, who despite a brave challenge were no match for their opponents.
