The development of Wexford GAA's centre of excellence has been put on hold due to a lack of finances available to complete the project.

Work was set to be carried out on the completion of the clubhouse at Ferns, but Wexford GAA Development Officer Cathal Byrne informed delegates that the completion of the second floor of the clubhouse had been put on hold.

Three pitches and dressingrooms are already available to Wexford county teams, but the second floor which will include a gym, physio room, meeting and utility rooms and a first aid area has not been completed.

A Sports grant of €200,000 has been secured for the work to be carried out, but in order for the county board to receive that funding, they must match that total, which they have found difficult to do.

The Wexford People reports Byrne as telling delegates that the grant was still available despite being secured in 2015.

"The Sports Capital grant is still available but we need to have spent the money on completion of the works in order to draw down the monies. We are working on getting the money together to commence the work," said Byrne.

"We have been to the bank, working on bridging finance, but there are still a couple of matters to regularise. In all such grant locations the Minster for Sport will look for a charge over a property."
