O'Loughlin Gaels manager Aidan Fogarty was left to rue another slow start by his team in their Leinster club SHC final defeat to Cuala.

The Kilkenny champions recovered from a sluggish start to dethrone Oulart-The Ballagh in the semi-final, but couldn't make up the ground on their Dublin opponents.

"We were very conscious of being slow out of the blocks against Oulart and we said we couldn't let that happen against Cuala because if they got a couple of early goals, we could struggle and that's the way it happened," the former Offaly All-Ireland winning corner back told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"You can plan to counteract these things, but on the day it just didn't happen for us and they scored good goals and we were lucky we didn't give away another few as well. Stephen Murphy made a few great saves right through the game.

"It was the sort of game where we needed goals early on and it did come too late (from Danny Loughnane). We never looked like scoring a goal prior to that and we gave away two goals early on, which was a nice cushion for them.

"We tried to come back at them, but we couldn't open them up. They played extremely well. We're disappointed, it wasn't our best performance, but you could put that down to Cuala playing very well as well."
