Frantic dash for Carlow duo pays off

October 26, 2016

Carlow's Dion Wall and Sean Whelan.

Two members of the Ireland Shinty under-21 team had a weekend to remember.

Carlow players Dion Wall and Sean Whelan were part of the Irish team that defeated Scotland by 4-18 to 2-11 in the shinty/hurling international played in Inverness last Saturday.

The Ballinkillen hurlers had little time to celebrate as they had to get a flight home to Ireland in order to line out with Fenagh in the Carlow under-21 B football final.

The players' plans were almost scuppered when their flight was delayed and they only arrived at Netwatch Cullen Park midway through the first half.

However, they went on to help their side to a 4-14 to 2-09 win over Burren Rangers making it an exceptional weekend for them.
