Former Galway hurling manager Anthony Cunningham is not in the running to succeed Terry Hyland as Cavan senior football manager.

The Anglo-Celt reports that Cunningham spoke to Breffni County officials about the vacancy but has indicated that he is not interested in being considered for the position.

Former Tyrone player Mattie McGleenan - who guided Scotstown to Monaghan SFC titles in 2013 and 2015 - is thought to be a leading contender.

Former Longford manager Jack Sheedy's name has also been linked with the job.

Cavan officials are playing their cards close to their chest as they seek to find a successor for Hyland who spent five years at the helm.
