Diesel issue causes delay in Carlow SFC

September 28, 2016

Carlow ready for the Dubs.

Last weekend's Carlow SFC semi-final between Palatine and Mount Leinster Rangers was delayed by 45 minutes after the generator that powers the floodlights ran out of diesel!

Carlow GAA chairman Sean Campion apologised to all concerned as the teams had been warming up on the pitch when the floodlights went out.

The players and management teams of both clubs had to return to the dressingrooms as the issue was resolved some 45 minutes later.

"We were out of diesel. Simple as that," Campion told the Carlow Nationalist. "It's one of those things which you would not want to happen but did happen. I can assure you it will not happen again."

When the game was finally played, Palatine had to withstand a strong challenge by MLR before the defending champions edged through on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-11.

They will meet Rathvilly in the final after they defeated rivals Old Leighlin by 0-15 to 1-10.
