Grugan takes hope from Tipp

Rory Grugan believes Armagh can take inspiration from Tipperary's surprise run to this year's All-Ireland SFC semi-final.

Tipp made light of their Division 3 status to reach the last four for the first time since 1935. By contrast, Armagh - who will come up against the Premier County in next spring's Allianz League - endured a bitterly disappointing championship campaign.

"Speaking to a few of the Armagh boys when Tipp were putting their run together and even Clare, we were inspired by what they did," Grugan told the Irish News.

"After Laois beat us, Clare went and beat them and then Sligo and the next thing they were in an All-Ireland quarter-final and that definitely does inspire you coming from Division 3. If you can put a bit of a run together, anything can happen.

"It was the same with us in 2014. We were relegated that year, we got beat by Monaghan in Ulster and then suddenly we beat Tyrone in Omagh and went on a run right to the quarter-finals and we could have got to the semi-finals.

"When you're losing a few games, the whole thing is in the gutter, but it's funny how if you get a bit of momentum and a bit of belief, the thing can take a big upturn."
