Fitzmaurice: we'll respect Clare

Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice believes opponents Clare are in a great position heading into this weekend's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.

The Banner County will compete at the last eight stage in the race for Sam Maguire for the first time and Fitzmaurice reckons they'll have nothing to lose at going in against the Kingdom on Sunday at Croke Park.

"I think they'd know the respect we have for them and the way we'll treat them is the same as if we're playing any other team, but, of course, they'll harness anything that they can use to give them that added motivation," Fitzmaurice told the Irish Examiner.

"And having won the league final earlier on in the year against Kildare, they have that Croke Park experience as well, so they won't be one bit afraid of it.

"They're in a great position from the point of view that they've a shot to nothing in a way. People, outside of their camp, aren't going to expect them to win. From a motivation and a psychological point of view, they're in a positive place and that's why we have to be at our best. It's as simple as that."
