Players deserve replay reward - Shanahan

Waterford's Maurice Shanahan with his brother and selector Dan Shanahan.

Dan Shanahan believes Clare and Waterford hurlers deserve some reward for bringing the NHL final to a replay.

There were 19,489 spectators in Thurles for Sunday's epic drawn encounter and the GAA will receive a welcome bonus windfall when an even bigger crowd shows up for this weekend's replay. Deise selector Shanahan says the players deserve a slice of that financial pie:

"The entertainment they put up there was phenomenal. The players don't ask for much - whatever it is at the end of the year, it's something they deserve. The entertainment out there was unbelievable. It probably wasn't the best game to watch but it was entertaining," he told The Irish Daily Mirror.

"These players, every player - I'm not just on about the Waterford lads but every player - should get taken care of better. I know the GPA and GAA are looking into that. I hope they do because there are lads playing Premiership games today and they're getting whatever they're getting. You have that entertainment out there, the fastest game on grass. It speaks for itself."
