Rebels considering shock Morgan reappointment

Cork legend Billy Morgan

Billy Morgan could be in line for a sensational return to the Cork senior football hot seat.

Regarded as the Rebel County's most successful manager ever, Morgan led the Leesiders to back-to-back All-Irelands in 1989 and '90 and also brought them back to another All-Ireland final when returning for a second term at the helm during the 'noughties.

Cork have yet to name a successor to Brian Cuthbert and the three names left in contention since the withdrawal of John Cleary were Ronan McCarthy, Elphie Fitzgerald and Ned English.

However, it is reported in today's Irish Times that the selection committee are now considering a dramatic move for Morgan, while another former manager Larry Tompkins is also understood to be in the frame.

The new manager will be in place within a week as the Rebels intend to finalise the appointment before next Tuesday's County Board meeting.
