Ballygunner are just 60 minutes away from retaining their Waterford SHC crown after seeing off Fourmilewater 1-16 to 1-12 in last evening's semi-final at Fraher Field.

The city side will face Tallow in what will be their 14th county final in 16 years after surviving a scare from a Fourmilewater team who were bidding to reach their first final.

Denis Walsh's champions led by 1-7 to 1-4 at the break with Peter Hogan scoring their goal in the 27th minute. Fourmilewater immediately hit back with a goal of their own from Craig Guiry, but they still trailed at the short whistle.

The underdogs reduced the deficit to the minimum on the restart through scores from Conor Gleeson and Seamus Lawlor before efforts from David O'Sullivan and Billy O'Keeffe put daylight between the sides again. Back came Fourmilewater with points from Guiry, Jamie Barron and Gearoid Hearne, but the champions weren't to be denied as Barry O'Sullivan's late point sealed their win.
