Record not on Carey's radar

Limerick's Ciaran Carey

Patrickswell will equal Ahane's record of 19 Limerick SHC titles if they can beat Na Piarsaigh on Sunday, but it's not something that's motivating their manager Ciaran Carey.

The Limerick legend has guided the'Well to their first county final in nine years in what is his first season in charge of his beloved club.

"I haven't heard that one since 2003 when we won our last title against Adare. It is immaterial," Carey said in the Limerick Leader when asked about the prospect of Patrickswell joining Ahane at the top of the roll of honour.

"It's a huge game for us. It's our first county final since 2006 and we haven't won it since 2003.

"To be fair, from where we started this year - we are just thrilled to be back in a final."

Carey is under no illusions about the task facing his side against a club that is chasing a quadruple - senior, U21, minor and junior - of championships this year.

"Na Piarsaigh's success speaks for itself. They are in the minor final and they have the U21 championship," he noted.

"They are odds on to win the junior championship and they are in the senior final. You need to say no more about Na Piarsaigh. It's a huge battle for us but it's one that we are looking forward to and a battle that we are going to relish."
