There was no news on football or hurling managerial appointments at last night's Cork County Board meeting but it was revealed that the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport have approved a €30m grant for the redevelopment of Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The Examiner reports that the department sought a cost-benefit plan from the board on the rebuilding of the stadium back in June and secretary Frank Murphy informed delegates last night: "Minister [Simon] Coveney has signed off on the necessary approval for the grant and we will receive official notification in the near future."

It was proposed that a full meeting of the board be held this Friday evening so delegates can be fully appraised of the financial detail with regard to the project.

"The tendering process has been underway for some time," Murphy explained, "and there has been extensive work done by the steering committee with contractors.

"We are now in a position to bring recommendations before the county finance committee and the full board. Friday's meeting will allow for the design team to give a full presentation to the board, an opportunity to see what has been done."

As regards, the search to find managerial replacements for Brian Cuthbert (senior football) and Jimmy Barry-Murphy (senior hurling), chairman Ger Lane told delegates that there should be some white smoke in "the next few days".
