Westmeath ref comes to club's aid

Good win for Seneschalstown

A long serving Westmeath referee was forced to don his club's jersey as they could only field 14 players in a championship game.

Well known referee Hughie Nolan was forced to line out for the second half of his club Castletown/Finea/Coole/Whitehall only started the game with 14 players.

Amazingly, the side who reached the intermediate decider in recent years could only call on 14 players for their championship game against Tubberclair.

And under GAA rules, a team that starts the game with 14 players must have 15 on the field for the start of the second half in order for the game to be concluded.

Nolan who has many years' experience refereeing in the county was his club's only management on the line and thus had to throw on the jersey for the throw in, before making his way back to the line.

Unsurprisingly, Tubberclair won the game convincingly on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-04.
