"I'm not on Twitter so I'm not responsible for what's on that"

Despite rumours to the contrary, Donegal captain Michael Murphy was "100% fit" going into yesterday's All-Ireland qualifier against Galway.

Prior to throw-in, Twitter was abuzz with speculation that Murphy was going to sit out the clash against the Tribesmen because of a knee injury he has been carrying since the Ulster final defeat to Monaghan.

As events panned out however, he played a starring role in the 3-12 to 0-11 success and, afterwards, manager Rory Gallagher told BBC Sport: "I'm not on Twitter so I'm not responsible for what's on that.

"Michael wasn't injured coming into the game. It was a very unfounded rumour.

"He wasn't 100% going into the Ulster final but we're not going to make excuses - we were well beaten that day. Michael was 100% fit going into today."

The 10-point winning margin flattered last year's defeated All-Ireland finalists according to the manager who said they have plenty to work on in advance of next weekend's quarter-final showdown with Mayo.

"We gained a good platform at the start of the game but then Galway took over and they were much the better team for long periods of the first-half.

"We were glad to get in at half-time and re-organise, change a few things around and we upped the ante in the second-half."
